Meeting for iced vietnamese coffee and enjoying french macaroons while discussing gelato, prosecco and a mutual love for Disney sounds like the perfect afternoon in Austin, don’t you think? Top that off with a stroll through 2nd Street district and the Lamar Bridge for epic sunshine photos! That’s exactly what I did last Friday when I met Maria for the first time to photograph her ‘lifestyle head shot’ photo shoot. It’s officially my new favorite portrait session that developed after emailing with Maria about they type of photos she was looking for. She found me via social media and I’ll let her speak to her ‘why’ for wanting these photos. I hope these showcase the joy that radiates from her and I’m so grateful to have a fellow Cinderella & “all things Italy” fan here in Austin! Bella Maria! Caio!
1) What was your motivation behind wanting lifestyle head shots?
I wanted to have a special memory some of my favorite things to do and places to be in Austin, to share with my friends and family. I wanted to capture this beautiful moment that I’m living, and have fun! As they say in Italy, perchè no?
2) How did you decide on locations/backdrops/outfits you wanted?
For the locations, I knew I wanted something like a cute café or restaurant and the view of downtown, which made me fall in love with Austin when I first moved here. I shared this with Jessica and she proposed some locations, and after some conversation we decided on Elizabeth Street Café, Dolce Neve, 2nd Street and the Lamar bridge. Elizabeth Street Café is such a cute place, with beautiful colors, and the coffee and macarons are so delicious. Dolce Neve has such a nice outdoor area, and the gelato is so good. I love 2nd Street and the shops and restaurants around it, it’s perfect to walk on a weekend. Lamar bridge is perfect to admire the beautiful Austin skyline.
As far as outfits, I found my blouse during one of my trips to Mexico, and from the moment I saw it, I knew I wanted it to be in my photoshoot. I kept myself from wearing it until the day of the shoot! My dress was a present from my mom for my birthday and since this shoot was also somehow a late birthday present, I thought it would be a perfect match! Plus, I thought it would go really well with my colorful handbag.
3) Describe your experience with Jessica:
Maravillosa! Wonderful! From day one of having contacted Jessica, she was always very helpful, providing detailed information and clarifying any questions. I felt that she really cared about the ideas behind the shoot, and that made things flow so easily. Then, on the day of the shoot, we finally met in person and it was great. We realized we had so many things in common, including one really good friend, a love for Italy and Cinderella. We had so much fun during the photoshoot, and her excitement for my photos made me enjoy the moment very much. Jessica, thank you so much! You are a wonderful person!!
4) What would you say to someone wanting a similar photo shoot
I would say, do it! Contact Jessica and share your ideas, and do it! I feel like every now and then we need to be reminded of where we are in our life, just because. We are in constant change and learning from life’s experiences, but the essence remains the same. Yet, it doesn’t hurt to be reminded of what makes us happy in life, what makes us smile, especially the small things: the view of a city, the taste of coffee, the story in a book. Capturing those moments and making a special memory of them helps not forgetting that we should smile.
