It’s never fun getting a notice from your airlines hours before you’re supposed to board an international flight that they’ve decided to cancel the second leg of your trip. So….huge thanks to British Airways for doing just that on my journey through London to Munich, Germany. How to make lemonade out of lemons?? Google “I’m stuck at Heathrow Airport for 7 hours, what do I do???” Turns out, this is pretty common and I found a lot of advice – one that struck me was going 20miles out and visiting Windsor Castle! If you’ve been glued to The Queen (on Netflix) like I have, this is a must and something we didn’t do on our last journey through London (during our Around the World trip). We made it to nearby Egham and Royal Halloway College for Calyx & Jacob’s engagement session, and I was excited when we went back through to remember how much fun we had! (want to see that amazing session? Click here: http://jessicafreyphotographyblog.com/engagement-photos-in-london-england-jacob-and-calyx)
First stop – join the rest of the tourists in Windsor for some Fish & Chips. Drown your fish in vinegar and boomerang it! Next, chat up all the friendly castle workers and meet a local dog (and his owner) who apparently gets to play with the Queen’s corgis when she’s home. Next, adventure through the State Apartments and marvel at all the pretty things and history that’s gone down. I also got to visit St. George’s Chapel that was currently going through a ‘deep clean’ to prep for an event the Queen was holding soon. *side note, pretty sure they filmed the Queen’s coronation scene on THE CROWN here.
Highlight?? Finding a Castle Guard and watch him march and then when other tourists are being silly and taking photos, you do the same so as not to miss out. I met a sweet Italian couple and we managed to take each other’s photos….they didn’t even blink an eye when I pulled out my Eden Luxe Bridal crown for the photo that I just so happen to have in my carry on. Anyone surprised I wore a full crown to a castle?!?!
I grabbed a quick 20min taxi (waaaay better than the hour long bus ride) back to the airport with plenty of time to grab my new flight to Munich! Definitely fun to get out and see a bit of the London countryside, so thanks British Airways!!
St. George’s Cathedral
The town of Windsor is so cute!
Oh HEY there Mr. BEAN!
My cute british taxi that took me back to the airport!
Thanks for following my adventures of 5 hours in London!

Sounds like the little bit of air travel inconvenience was worth it! Love the pics. Especially the stuffed Corgi… how cute. Taking advantage of layover time is something I need to improve upon.
My husband and I, along with two friends, are going to Europe for 2 weeks in June. If possible, I just got more excited 🙂
