“Today is the 70th anniversary of the D-Day invasion of Normandy, France, on June 6,1944. The Allied invasion was the initial stage of Operation Overlord, the plan to liberate Northwestern Europe from Nazi occupation.”
Eric and I were so thankful we had the opportunity to rent a car while in Paris and make the drive north to the Normandy area to explore this historical event this past September. It was absolutely moving and I’m so glad we were able to experience it as it is today….and hear more about the story of Eric’s grandfather who flew on D-Day and of my grandfather who flew in a few days later. God bless our troops and if you ever have the opportunity, I highly recommend visiting these battle fields and learning more about our history. Until then, here are my photos to help see what it looks like today – drastically different, I’d say but still so much history in those sands and I’m glad they’ve left Pointe Du Hoc in tact so you can really feel the spirit of our soldiers.
So glad we visited Pointe du Hoc…if you don’t know the story, here’s a quick link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pointe_du_Hoc
