Another Freyday! Last Friday, I flew out to Houston and drove straight from the airport to Lafayette, LA for a long weekend with Alan & Maureen for enagement photos! Maureen & Alan live in Houston, but Lafayette is where Alan grew up and was excited to show me the ropes! I met many of his family members and had all day on Saturday to location scout, enjoy a ride in the swamp on the “Green Bean” and eat cajun food and enjoy the culture! I had a blast and really enjoyed my trip and the wonderful people I met. Here are some photos I got with my camera and iPhone of the trip, so enjoy this personal post! Also, remember to check back on Monday for their engagement photos. Have a wonderful weekend, y’all! – Jessica
Mattie even came on the journey with us!
All smiles since we didn’t see any ‘gatuh’ and my equipment stayed dry! Please ignore the wind-blown hair and awesome iPhone quality images 😉
A real wind boat sped by us while going under the freeway! Those things are LOUD!
On Sunday at the gardens we went to for the engagement photo session we saw some beautiful peacocks! I couldn’t resisit a few photos and even made my peacock bird noises to get them to fan out…didn’t quite work!
We also found this beautiful rooster! I love the colors!
Alan taught me how to fish when these two were first dating back in 2006 and of course we had time to go try our luck in his sister’s pond.
I took iPhone photos of the stunning cloudy pond reflection while waiting for my fish to bite 🙂
Sucess!!! The baby bass was actually caught using…..a piece of snake. Seriously! (You know neither of us ladies baited our own hooks, right?! gross.) I caught a baby something, and both were put back for future use.
This is the sweetest baby goat, Thomas! He enjoys chewing on things and going on ‘goat back’ rides 🙂 haha…get it? Piggy-back rides for goats? I’m hilarious, I know.
We stopped for some fresh Boudin and I saw these two and had to take a picture! I’ve heard of the cajun “Slap Ya Mama” spice, but the “Punch ya Daddy” must be new. What’s next, a spank ya baby seasoning? On the right is the sausage and chicken gumbo we had that night at the local gathering….it had been stewing all day and lived up to the hype I had heard about!
At the bonfire! Everyone pulled up their trucks, we ate gumbo and listened to music! Oh man how I miss that!
More new food for me…crawfish! Ew. they gross me out! I had Alan peel me a few to try and the meat was really good…as long as I didn’t have to pull off the head and peel off the tails. Again, ew.
After eating crawfish and shrimp Étouffée, I had my first opportunity to hear a Zydeco band! The guy planing the washboard was fantastic and I had a fun time dancing off my food!
I picked it up pretty quickly since it’s similar to jitterbugging! Here’s me dancing with Alan’s mom 🙂
Back in Houston, we took photos here with the skyline as our backdrop! Hello Houston!
And to finish it off, I held a baby. This is sweet little Lorelei, my good friend Pam’s little girl!

Wow – I love the photos of the trees. It looks like you had a great time. So many cool places in the USA I need to visit!
Jessica,
I’d like to purchase a couple of pictures.
