Hawaii Wedding – Honolulu Waikiki Bride & Groom

Hawaii Wedding – Honolulu Waikiki Bride & Groom

Happy Anniversary to Shana & Chris!! I can’t believe over a year ago we were saying Aloha and celebrating their beautiful Honolulu Waikiki wedding day!  It was full of family, laughter and celebration and I’m so thankful to have had the opportunity to capture it for them!  Shana and Chris are from Hawaii and planned their wedding day while living in California. After a year of marriage, I asked these two a few questions for future couples out there planning their wedding day, especially for destination weddings and this is their advice: 1) What is the best advice that was given to you when you started planning your wedding? Don’t wait to book your venue. We had our hearts set on our venue and ended up moving our date because the date we wanted was already taken.   2) What is one thing you think every bride and/or groom should know that you learned while planning your wedding? Get a planner, especially if you are having a destination wedding. Having our wedding in Hawaii and getting a planner early on really helped us to stay on track and make sure that all of the little details that we didn’t know about, our planner was able to make sure was taken care of. Our planner made a strict timeline that we stuck to, from sending invites to booking vendors, and it really made everything go smoothly. Also, having a team there on the day of to direct all of the vendors gave us the chance to really sit back and enjoy the day.   3) What were your wedding colors and...

A: I love seeing the vision for the day really come together. From a color palette to a surprise encore song, getting to be a part of the biggest day in a family’s life is really an honor. Do you have any fun/memorable wedding concepts you’ve helped create? A: This past spring, I helped a bride & close friend with her wedding and we came up with the theme of “Forest Gully” as she really wanted to pull in lush textures & rich colors of the Pacific Northwest (where she is originally from) and blend them with rustic, luxe touches. The final looks was amazing, and it was also pretty special to see one of my friends marry her best friend.   How many weddings have you...

Wedding Traditions Answered

There are numerous wedding traditions that happen at almost every wedding I’ve attended/photographed and thanks to a recent bridal shower I attended, I’m excited to do an entire blog post devoted to giving you some “answers” as to why certain traditions exist!  So, enjoy a cup of coffee on this cool day and play along to see how many you know!  If you’ve heard of a different answer, please leave your take in the comment section!   Why do we designate a specific ring finger? The left ‘ring finger’ contains the vein of love.  In the third century B.C. physicians with their misguided interpretation of human anatomy thought that a vein of blood ran directly from the third finger on the left hand to the heart.  The vein was called vena amoris, or the vein of love.  Thus, it was compelling and logical that the third finger should be the perfect part of the body to bear a ring symbolizing eternal love and commitment. ——- Why does the bride wear a veil? It was believed that a veil wards off evil spirits by disguising the bride.  The ancient Greeks and Romans believed that a bride’s veil would ward off evil spirits and magically protect her from harm. Brides were veiled from head to toe, and only the husband could see the bride unveiled – so he could make sure he was indeed marrying the correct woman. —— Why does the bride wear a white gown? This shows the brie and groom are considered royalty.  In 1499, Anne of Brittany wore the first knon white wedding dress in her wedding...

Real Brides – Advice for New Brides!

1) What is the best advice that was given to you when you started planning your wedding?  Have Fun Planning it only happens once in a lifetime!   2) What is one thing you think every bride should know that you learned while planning your wedding?  Communicate and use any help that is offered, the more you can delegate the better.  (I have issues trusting people making things the way I want them so this was difficult for me but I had that 1 person that I knew I could trust and I knew would make the best decisions for me and it was PERFECT!)   3) What were your wedding colors and is there a story behind why you chose them? Blush, Gray and White.  No significance at all.  The hall was very busy with multiple colors, so we picked colors that would tone it down and make a romantic elegant setting.   4) What’s your favorite detail you chose for your wedding that representing your love story?  Baseball ring holder! We both LOVE the Los Angeles Dodgers and he has a history of playing baseball, so we had a friend cut a baseball in half and place the ring holder in to display our wedding bands.   5) How long did you have to plan your wedding day?  We planned our wedding in 9 months.  Got engaged February 2013 and were married November 2013. 6) Did you hire a wedding planner/day of coordinator?  Was it worth the expense? We did. We hired my best friend, definitely worth it being that I trusted she would make the best decisions...
