For the last 15 years, I have photographed hundreds of weddings and events around the world. My case of wanderlust never ceases, but I do have a soft spot for events in my hometown of Austin, Texas.
That’s why I was thrilled to work with the team at RED VELVET to capture the Austin PBS Grand Opening Event last summer!
Austin PBS is a prominent organization in the Austin area. You may know them because of their broadcasting services, but did you also know that they give back to the community? The grand opening of Austin PBS’ Austin Media Center represents just one way that they do so!
In this post, you’ll find out why the new Austin Media Center is so important. You’ll also see what it’s like to work with me as your event photographer!
Located on the Austin Community College (ACC) Highland campus, the new Austin Media Center is an impressive 45,000 square foot facility. It boasts 3 state-of-the-art television studios with over 100 miles of cabling to support their many broadcast services. They are also now the largest 12G facility in the US!
With such a significant establishment opening here in Austin, I was honored to be selected by my friends at RED VELVET as the official Austin PBS Grand Opening event photographer. With my years of experience, I have honed my ability to capture both candid and posed shots in any environment, whether it’s a gala with low lighting or an outdoor mixer with the sun shining brightly.
My event clients frequently tell me that they are impressed by my smooth and seamless process in addition to the quick turnaround time on their photo galleries (between 4-6 days). And Austin PBS was no different!
I had a blast working with the RED VELVET team and Austin PBS crew for this grand opening event and was so pleased to see another happy client!
What is it like to work with me? I make things as easy and stress-free as possible for you! I know you’re busy planning all the event logistics and the last thing you need is to get caught up in the minutiae. So I take the guesswork out of the process and simply deliver classic, authentic, and elegant photos to you!
Here’s what to expect when you work with me:
Getting your event on my calendar is as simple as filling out my contact form! You can also shoot me an email with the event details at jessica@jessicafreyphotography.com . Either way, I will get back to you within hours with my availability, pricing guide, and further info.
No waiting around to get the info you need!
I’ll then gather more event info and answer any questions you have through your preferred method of communication: e-mail, phone call or video call. Through these conversations, we can both determine if we are the right fit!
I’ll send you a custom proposal and contract, tailored to fit your specific needs! Whether you have a multi-day event, a destination event, or any other type of event, I’ll make sure that your proposal encompasses everything you need.
You’ll then be able to select your desired final services and sign your contract 100% online.
And just like that, you’ve secured your event photographer!
Onsite at the event, I am self-sufficient and completely professional! When we work together, I consider myself a representative of your brand, so I dress and act with the utmost professionalism.
I’m also a pro at navigating any event scene! I am both engaged and discreet, capturing candid and posed photos without interfering with the event’s activities.
Fun fact: Did you know that one of my event photography services includes a headshot station? A perfect practical gift for your attendees! Not to mention a great way to have unified and consistent imagery across your media platforms.
After the event, I’ll edit your photos and within 4-6 days, I’ll send you a link to a digital gallery. We will have shared copyright on the images, meaning that you are 100% free to utilize them across your website, social media, and other collateral!
Bonus fun fact: One of my event photography add-on services is a 24 hour turnaround time! That’s right, I can get you your entire photo gallery within 24 hours of the event conclusion.
Now that you know just how simple it is to work with me, let’s get back to the Austin PBS Grand Opening!
This event truly pulled out all the stops! Planned and executed by the RED VELVET team, it was a free 3-day event for the general public and Austin Media Center sponsors, located at the brand new Austin Media Center itself!
The festivities kicked off with the official ribbon cutting ceremony! Notable members of the Austin community were present, including Mayor Steve Adler and state representative, Sheryl Cole.
The excitement and anticipation from the ribbon cutting carried throughout the rest of the event days! This ceremony commenced what they called a “Grand Opening Community Day,” which included character meet & greets with Austin PBS characters, storytime for the kids, live interviews with the mayor, and music performances.
One of my favorite parts of the weekend was how involved the kids got to be! As a boy mom myself, I appreciated that RED VELVET and Austin PBS presented many opportunities for the kids to learn and participate.
For example, they held storytime for the kids on one of their new sound stages sponsored by HEB! The kiddos got to sit right in front of the stage, where one of the Austin PBS characters interacted with and entertained them.
They also had intermittent character meet & greets for the kids and the adults sponsored by Ascension Seton! There was even a visit from the HEB mascot!
What would the Austin PBS Grand Opening event be without a gala? This was certainly a night to remember!
Held in the Pfluger Keller Community Soundstage, this gala was spectacular! And not just because of their brand new broadcast lighting!
The room contained rectangular tables of 10 with acrylic “ghost” chairs. Yellow centerpieces in the form of either low floral arrangements or tall feather plumes decorated each table. The event colors were featured prominently in every detail, including the tables themselves, which had stripes of yellow, orange, navy, turquoise, and classic blue.
The President & CEO of Austin PBS, Luis Patino, delivered an eloquent speech as guests dined on their dinner and dessert (aquafaba pavlova!).
It was a great evening and event overall – Just check out the photos!
Huge shoutout to my friends at RED VELVET and Austin PBS for inviting me to photograph this wonderful community event!
